Country fans can rest easy knowing that one part of the wedding planning process has been handled—by Russell Dickerson. The “Yours” singer, whose beloved tune is one of the top first dance songs in the country, reveals his wedding reception playlist to The Knot (in time for Valentine’s Day).
Dickerson, himself, has been married to his wife, Kailey, for five years. The couple exchanged vows down South back in 2013, before a large group of guests. “I grew up in Nashville, and it’s that thing where you invite this and this family,” Dickerson tells The Knot. “And the next thing you know, you have 650 people at your wedding ceremony.”
The couple hosted their reception at Houston Station in Nashville, where Hills standout Kristin Cavallari married NFL player Jay Cutler in June 2013. “We had a closed reception, so it was like, everyone was invited with a cake reception,” Kailey adds. “It was very Southern—except our wedding was at 2 in the afternoon… It was early, and then we had a trolley and we went and took all these pictures [after the ceremony].”
With several years of marriage under his belt, Dickerson has one particular takeaway to share with couples. “Always take the low road. Always choose humility,” the singer concludes. “That’s, like, the hardest to do but the most effective.”
Whether you’re en route to a fancy night out with your significant other or you’re at home cooking up a delicious meal this Valentine’s Day, listen to his reception picks above and see if it’s a fit for your nuptials.
