Ryan Gosling likely doesn’t find it unusual to get approached by strangers of all ilk, but at his mother’s recent wedding, he found that he was getting attention for a very unique reason.
The actor sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday and told a hilarious story about how he got repeatedly approached at his mother’s wedding in Italy. Rather than facing starstruck wedding guests, Gosling said, he found that many of his stepfather’s family members wanted to talk to him about the wedding menu.
“There was a lot of, during the service, like these wonderful older Italian women just whispering to me about food,” Gosling told Kimmel. His stepfather’s family is from Rome. “So, at one point, this woman said, ‘There’s a tortellini in the freezer!'”
“Then, later on, almost towards the vows, another woman said, ‘There’s a smoked mozzarella in the fridge,’” he continued. “And then another woman went, ‘It’s from Naples.’”
Gosling admitted to Kimmel that he made good on the insider tips, amusing though they were. The mozzarella, which he did eventually try, was “like an angel crying on your tongue,” he said.
Gosling’s own 2016 wedding to his longtime love, Eva Mendes, was largely kept under wraps, and even now, the pair opt to keep their personal lives out of the spotlight, favoring privacy over public appearances.
Last month, Mendes, 44, did let slip a tiny tidbit about the couple’s home life, however, though she kept her comments short and sweet. “I don’t feel like I have it balanced at all,” she told E! News. “I kind of have been figuring it out as I’m going along and it’s just important to have a support system. I have my family, I have Ryan’s family and that’s just like, invaluable to have family around supporting you.”
The pair share two young daughters together, Esmeralda and Amada.
