What a year it’s been for Ryan Lochte! The Olympian, who announced his engagement to model Kayla Rae Reid in early October, shared another mega, life milestone with fans on Wednesday, December 14—he’s going to be a dad!
The swimmer, 32, made the big announcement on social media, posting an adorable photo of himself swimming and kissing Reid’s burgeoning baby bump.
“My Christmas gift came early this year,” Lochte gushed on Twitter and Instagram. “Can’t wait for next year! Best news I’ve ever received #CLOUD9 #excited#family #love #2017.”
Reid echoed her future husband’s sentiments by sharing a sweet message of her own. “Just when you think you think you have it all figured out, life always surprises you with blessings when least expect it,” she noted. “So excited to share this news with all of you! ❤️👶🏼😊#weareprego #omg #2017.”

Lochte proposed to the former Playboy model two months ago in a romantic, sunset proposal staged alongside Malibu Canyon. The athlete enlisted the help of L.A.-based Bridal Rings Company to design Reid’s engagement ring. The brand’s proprietor, Jay Hariz, subsequently shared exclusive details with The Knot about the design process.
“[Ryan] came to our showroom in the diamond district because we specialize in handcrafted diamond engagement rings and loose diamonds,” the jeweler said at the time. “He had a very good idea of what ring style she likes, and he knew what shape and size diamond he wanted.”
Interestingly enough, Lochte expressed in a recent interview that he wanted his very own Boomer Phelps (the baby son of record-smashing athlete Michael Phelps and his wife, Nicole Johnson) in time for the 2020 Olympics.
“No less than two, no more than three,” Lochte told Cosmopolitan this month, while his fiancee added: “I want boy, girl, boy, or boy, girl, girl.”
