He really was ready! Olympian Ryan Lochte is engaged to his girlfriend, Kayla Rae Reid. The swim champion popped the question on Sunday, October 9, just one week after he praised Reid for supporting him during his scandal in Rio this past summer.
The athlete, 32, proposed to the former Playboy model, 25, alongside Malibu Canyon as the sun dipped below the horizon. “Memories forever!!!” the future groom wrote on Instagram, accompanied by an artistic shot with his new fiancee. “#thelochtes#LA.”
Reid reciprocated his love with an equally-sentimental sunset snapshot. “Speechless. Absolutely beautiful,” the model wrote. “So in love with YOU.”

The Dancing With the Stars contestant proposed to his girlfriend less than a week after he told USA Today that he was ready to settle down with her.
“When I realized this was ‘the one’ was when she stuck behind me through this,” he told the paper. “She still loves me and she’s still right there with me.”
The couple first met inside the VIP room of Bootsy Bellows in Hollywood this past January. Lochte said he locked eyes with the blonde bombshell and instinctively reached his hand out to hers. The two were eventually pulled in separate directions by friends, but Lochte did his due diligence and found Reid on Instagram.
“From the very first time I met her, everything has, like, clicked,’’ the swimmer noted in the same interview. “That’s why I know I can propose to her because everything that’s happened and she’s been keeping me so positive. She doesn’t care about my fame. She doesn’t care about anything. All she cares about is me being happy.”
