Piecing it all together. Ryan Reynolds says his love story with Blake Lively started inside an empty restaurant in New York City. In a sweet new interview with GQ, the Deadpool actor revealed the exact moment he knew he was falling for his future wife.
“Probably after the sex,” Reynolds, 40, joked at first. “No, we were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that’s open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, ‘Want to dance?’ No one was in there, so it was just totally empty.”
The intimate dance sparked something within the Green Lantern co-stars. “It was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, ‘Oh, I think I just crossed a line,’” Reynolds reflected. “And then I walked her home. And, uh, you know, I don’t really need to go into what happened after that.”
Lively’s account of the moment, however, is slightly different. The actress, 29, recently shared on Instagram that she fell in love with her husband in O Ya’s Boston location. The Gossip Girl alum memorably surprised her husband at the restaurant’s location in NYC for his 40th birthday party.
“We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston,” Lively wrote in October. “We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories! You are our FAVORITE!! Another happy birthday with @vancityreynolds . Hey, Reynolds, I like you a wh❤️le lot. Just sayin’…😍.”
Reynolds’ GQ interview was conducted in September right before the couple welcomed their second baby girl. “I’m on the precipice of having a real American family,” the Proposal star said at the time. “I mean, I always imagined that would happen, and then it happened. Every idiotic Hallmark-card cliché is true.”
The A-listers married four years ago in Charleston, South Carolina. For the occasion, Lively wore a gown by Marchesa with Louboutins, while Reynolds wore a Burberry suit. After a bliss-filled first few years as newlyweds, the couple welcomed their oldest daughter James, in December 2015. In early November, the actor revealed the sex of his second baby.
“My baseline’s pretty good, I think, aside from a few pretty intense anxiety hiccups over my life,” Reynolds concluded to GQ. “I wouldn’t say I’m quantifiably happier now than I was when I lived in my s—thole studio apartment on Wilcox in Hollywood. I’m also old enough to understand what’s an illusion and what’s real, and that it’s foolish to try to think that I can control anything from here on out.”
