Ryan Reynolds will soon begin shooting a wedding movie entitled, Shotgun Wedding. The actor confirmed the news on Tuesday, January 29, revealing his first romantic comedy role since he starred opposite Sandra Bullock 10 years ago in The Proposal.
Reynolds will be walking down the aisle in the film written by Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore. Reynolds himself will be producing the film under Maximum Effort and Mandeville Films, which collaborated on The Proposal as well.
“I haven’t done a romantic comedy since The Proposal but I just fell in love with Shotgun Wedding,” Reynolds said in a statement (via The Wrap). “It’s so refreshing and surprising. I can’t wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave and the great team at Lionsgate.”
The premise of the movie is about a couple who is planning an over-the-top, extravagant destination wedding. However, the twist becomes that it is suddenly run over by criminals, and the couple is tasked with a different type of role: to save their respective families. According to the synopsis, it’s during this arduous process that the lovebirds remember why they even opted to get married initially anyway.
Reynolds also walked down the aisle in 2009’s Proposal, albeit initially against his will. He is also, of course, married in real life to actress Blake Lively.
