A gridiron engagement! Samford University football player, Deion Pierre, had an unforgettable weekend. After beating Virginia’s VMI Keydets on Saturday, October 15, the junior linebacker enlisted the help of his fellow Bulldogs to pull off an on-field proposal.
Post-game and still in full uniform (sans helmets), the team gathered around Pierre’s girlfriend, who was visibly stunned. Holding long-stemmed roses, the players swayed back and forth to Ed Sheeran’s romantic hit, “Thinking Out Loud.”
Pierre made his way through the crowd and took his love’s hand. As he dropped to one knee, his teammates knelt down to place their roses around the adorable couple while shouting “Woohoo” in unison.
Taking off his helmet and looking into his girlfriend’s eyes, Pierre sweetly asked, “Will you marry me?” After nodding yes, his fiancee giggled excitedly as he slipped the ring on her finger.
With football players jumping up and down and screaming all around them, the newly engaged couple embraced. Pierre beamed as his bride-to-be tried to gain her composure, and the players chanted, “She said yes.”
After more hugs, Pierre’s fiancee was asked how she was feeling. “I feel great,” she responded.
“Were you surprised?” the interviewer asked.
“Very,” she admitted with a huge smile.
“I feel great,” Pierre gushed when asked how he was feeling. “I won twice today.”
