We hope they made s’mores! Scandal actress Katie Lowes is coming up on her fifth year of marriage with husband Adam Shapiro, and she is still glowing after her camp-themed wedding from 2012. The ABC star appeared on Live With Kelly on Thursday, April 13, where she shared some details about her otherwise-private nuptials.

“I was a wedding planner’s assistant for years,” Lowes, 35, shared. “And I knew I did not want to have a traditional wedding because I had worked a million of them. So my husband and I got married at a sleep away camp in the Berkshires.”

The bride and groom rented an entire sleep away camp for their several hundred guests in the upstate New York sanctuary. “He and I were both camp counselors for a long time. We were both big sleepaway camp people,” he expressed. “We rented a whole camp. We had a variety show, we had a color war, we had 215 people in cabins. The cops came. There was a drum circle. There was a fire pit.”

The grand finale of the night was a beautiful send-off. “We let off all of these lanterns,” Lowes explained. “It was the most fun weekend of my life.”

A camp weekend wouldn’t be complete without sweets, and the couple made sure to implement some of their favorite childhood traditions into their nuptials. The pair hosted an ice cream social for one wedding-related event, and erected an Oreo cake for guests at their actual reception. “Who doesn’t love an Oreo? I mean, come on!” Lowes expressed to Ripa. “We were like, what’s our favorite dessert? So we just had a pile of Oreos and we were flinging them out… Everyone had Oreo in their teeth.”

The pair married in 2012 at a retreat hideaway called Club Getaway. The couple and their guests apparently had so much fun that cops had to shut down their late-night drum circle, which included a bonfire and a singalong.
