That ring is no taco! Serena Williams debuted her engagement ring following Alexis Ohanian’s romantic proposal in Italy over the holidays. Fittingly, the tennis champ took to her future husband’s social platform, Reddit, to share the news on Thursday, January 5.
The adorable pic features Williams, 35, and the Reddit co-founder cozying up together with giant grins, presumably after he proposed in Rome. The Wimbledon star is donning a white tank, along with a full, black skirt and matching Nike sneakers. The focal point of the ensemble is undoubtedly Williams’ sparkling bauble, but she draws attention to her footwear with the caption, “Engagement shoe game.”
Before showing off the new piece of jewelry, Williams responded to social media followers who were anxious to see the diamond. On Tuesday, she took to Instagram to post a snap of a silver band with a tiny taco affixed to the top. “Sneak peek. It was a corn tortilla of course in case you were wondering,” she joked alongside the photo.
The athlete first announced her engagement on December 29, with a sweet poem. The news surprised fans and followers as the couple–who’ve now been together for a year–had kept their relationship largely under wraps.
“I came home. A little late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited. Destination: Rome,” Williams shared. “To escort me to my very own ‘charming.’ Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle. At the same table we first met by chance. But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes.”
Ohanian, 33, posted the romantic poem on his Facebook page and wrote,“She said yes.” Below his fiancee’s announcement he wrote, “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.”
