For months, Jeremy Scher conspired with his future mother-in-law to to pull off the perfect proposal for Jedediah Bila. When the moment finally took place in June, The View co-host was amazed at Scher’s stealthiness. “Jeremy and my mom have an amazing relationship,” Bila tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “So, for months—what I didn’t know—was he was talking to my mom.”

Bila always knew that she wanted a ring that was very similar to her mother’s: a simple, emerald-cut diamond set on white gold. “My mom had gone into the city to help him figure out everything… She knows what I like,” the TV personality says. “I wanted the emerald stone to be the center. It reminded me of my parents and their relationship, which I absolutely love. The ring is very simple, it’s very elegant, and it’s very me.”

Scher chose to pop the question during a sleepy weekend away at a quaint bed and breakfast in New Hope, Pennsylvania. “He took me to a side garden. There were candles. He had a bottle of wine. There was lots of greenery, [the spot is] very private. It looked like we were in a conservatory,” Bila recalls. “I sat down, and he goes into this really adorable story about how he felt when he first met me. [Jeremy] wants kids and he said, ‘If I had a daughter, I want her to be just like you.’ And then, he got down on one knee and proposed.”

Thankfully, the innkeeper captured the memory in the background. The newly-engaged couple then went out to dinner at a local Italian restaurant. The entire day, Bila says, “was really beautiful.”

Celebrity wedding planner Mikie Russo, who’s worked with Shark Tank’s Robert Herjavec and Dancing With the Stars pro Kym Johnson, as well as Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum Tatyana Ali, is now tasked with planning Bila’s nuptials. “Thank God for Mikie,” the bride says. “I don’t know how to plan my way out of a paper bag. I’m looking into a lot of venues…”

The couple wants an intimate winter wedding close to Manhattan. “I want it to feel really warm, almost like a beautiful, mansion-style, living room feel,” she continues. “Something romantic and warm. I’m just going to let Mikie make that happen.”

Bila and Scher asked their friend, photographer Jordan Matter, to capture their engagement session, which took place by the Cloisters, a short distance away from New York City. “I wanted something that was really ‘us,’ but not typical engagement photos in any way,” she says. “We’re not a fancy couple. More jeans and T-shirts… We climbed a fence for one shot. We’re adventurous.”

In fact, the couple first met in an active setting: the gym. “He used to live across the street from me, and we had the same trainer at the time,” she says. “We started talking very casually, and soon after that, it escalated to him asking me [out].”

“Our first four or five dates were really long dates. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge and sat at a park downtown. We walked the High Line. For hours. I’d come home and think, ‘I spent 9 hours with this guy. How did that happen?’” she says. “It was very old school. A ‘from another time’ type-of-romance.”
