With one of the longest lasting marriages in show business, country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary. McGraw posted a video on Facebook in honor of their adorable proposal story.
Hill, 48, acknowledged their anniversary by posting a glamorous, red-carpet photo of the two at the 2015 Oscars on Facebook, writing, “Celebrating 19 years today. Happy Anniversary Tim McGraw.” Shortly thereafter, McGraw, 48, paralleled her affections, writing, “Happy anniversary to the best person I will ever know Faith Hill” alongside a clip of himself re-telling their proposal story recorded at the Taste of Country Festival in Grand Junction, Colorado, back in June.
“We were in the dressing room here, June 26, 1996,” he says in the touching Facebook video. “It was rainy and stuff and we’d been on tour for a while together. I’d joked around with her about getting married, and so… I looked at her, I grabbed her by the hands before I went onstage. She had already done her show. And I said, ‘I’m really serious. I want you to marry me.’”
“She laughed and she said, ‘We’re at a country music festival in a trailer house, and you’re asking me to marry you?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I went onstage.”
Hill, left with the question of engagement and a boyfriend who left to perform his set on stage, had a clever idea of her own to answer McGraw’s proposal.
“I had in my dressing room… this foldout case that had a mirror in it that was my dressing armoire,” McGraw recalled. “I still have it to this day. When I came back offstage, [I saw] a Sharpie with lipstick kisses all over it, saying, ‘Yes! I’m gonna be your wife.’ It had, ‘I love you’ with big lipstick kisses. And this is the place right here.’”
On the subject of marriage advice, Mcgraw questioned whether he was the right person to give it, but told E! News this past February, “The main thing is there’s going to be ups and downs, and you’re not always going to see eye to eye.”
“There will be times that you don’t like each other. You just have to know you’re in it for the long haul and you’re committed to it,” McGraw added, “You just have to look at the big picture and enjoy life together.”
McGraw explained that stepping away from the limelight and, “being as normal as possible” keeps their family strong. “Certainly it’s different because of what we both do, but we try to keep it as much of a family environment that we can” he said to E! News prior to the couple’s 18th wedding anniversary last year. “For us, we leave the front doors when we go to work, but when we’re home, we don’t talk about none of the music that much…It’s a whole different world.”
The couple married on October 6, 1996 and currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee with their three teenaged daughters Gracie, 18, Maggie, 17, and Audrey, 13.
