For Vanderpump Rules fans, the wait is over! Tom Schwartz’s proposal to Katie Maloney aired on the January 4 episode, and although the engagement took place back in July, we’re thrilled to have finally seen the highly anticipated moment!
Prior to the proposal, Schwartz shows Lisa the engagement ring. After encouraging him to waste no time getting his future bride to the altar, she promises to keep his secret.
The couple meets with friends for dinner and drinks to celebrate Tom Sandoval’s birthday. The birthday boy is completely on board with his friend’s proposal plans, stating “My birthday has to be it. It’s the perfect opportunity.”
Schwartz is hoping for the best, but he realizes “there is a chance that something might go wrong.” He had previously shared with Lisa that he planned to “Schwartzify the proposal,” making eager fans unsure what shenanigans to expect.
As Schwartz throws back booze at the restaurant, he begins to get more and more nervous. “So my anticipation is peaking,” he admits. The soon-to-be groom goes on to say he has his girlfriend where he wants her. “She has more or less given up that we’re ever gonna get engaged,” he laughs. And as the waitress clears the entrees, he anxiously takes his cue.
“I’m so well-prepared, yet that moment before is just terrifying,” he shares on camera, as viewers overhear Katie stating that oatmeal is the best thing she’s ever had in her mouth. Just as she’s apologizing to Schwartz, another man in the restaurant gets down on one knee to propose to his unsuspecting girlfriend.
Schwartz draws attention to the show-stealing couple, and Katie is downright embarrassed. In a surprising moment, Schwartz walks over to the couple, taking the ring box from the stranger. Soon viewers – and Katie – know this is his way of “Schwartzifying” the proposal.
“Katie Maloney,” he says as he gets down on one knee, “you’re the love of my life. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He holds out the ring box, as Katie repeats, “no you’re not,” obviously shocked at her boyfriend’s proposal.
“Will you marry me?” he asks, and when Katie asks him if he’s serious, he replies with, “Yes, I love you.” He then realizes that she hasn’t answered him yet, stating “Wait, you never said yes.”
Katie is filled with emotion as she says, “Of course. No, yes, of course,” and violinists play in the background. Their friends are crying and everyone’s hugging, and the bride-to-be tells viewers, “It turns out he was serious. I’m engaged!”
As the groom-to-be hugs his girl, he says “She was such a bitch to me today, too.” Everyone laughs, and Schwartz hugs his friends. He admits he feels great, acknowledging the proposal was “the fairytale ending.”
Back in July, Katie took to Instagram to share her engagement news with fans. The future bride posted a photo of the happy Vanderpump Rules couple with the caption, “So I said… YES!!”
Following her engagement post, Katie shared close-up photos of her stunning ring. “I’m beyond happy,” the soon-to-be Mrs. Schwartz captioned the image. “One of my and @twschwa closest friends designed this gorgeous ring and that make it all the more special!” She continued, “Here is a close up and details [of] my ring!”

As she reminisced the next day, Katie shared one of her favorite photos with fans. “Last night was amazing,” she recalled, “and I love this picture.”
The bride-to-be wasn’t the only one to share the blissful news. Schwartz posted a close-up of the couple (and the ring!) on Instagram, captioning it “You can tell from the twinkle in my tooth she said yes!” He went on to say, “Big THX to @kylechandesign for designing the perfect ring. love my bubbee @musickillskate * I accidentally deleted my initial post.”
Despite all the drama that Vanderpump Rules brings, this couple is clearly in love! Congratulations to the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz! We can’t wait to see what surprises you have in store.
