Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson’s wedding marked more than one first. The celebration didn’t just unite the couple as newlyweds—it united their families for the first time too.
In an interview with Us Weekly, recent bride Johnson explained the surprising introduction: “It was like West Side Story. Our families have never met prior in their entirety.” And while the meet-up was unconventional, it still went swimmingly. Johnson’s favorite part of the special moment? Her father meeting her now-husband’s kin, which she called “incredible.”
“I was emotional the whole time because it was all of my favorite people in one place just with our families, and then our friends, and then our co-workers,” Johnson reminisced to the outlet. “I literally think about the day every day.”
The Dancing with the Stars pro also dished on the couple’s honeymoon, which was 10 days full of relaxing, exploring and eating. She called that experience “pure bliss.”
As for her future with the fellow DWTS dancer? Kids are definitely on the brain. “We talk about family every day. We want babies,” she admitted. That being said, the pair isn’t ready to take the plunge into parenthood just yet. “I come from a very big family and I know that this guy wants kids. So we’ll have them someday. If he will treat our kids the way he treats our little dog,” she added, “they’re going to be the most spoiled precious babies in the world.”
The newlyweds tied the knot back in April with a oceanside ceremony in front of 200 guests. Famous attendees included the couple’s relatives Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who are also married DWTS costars. Jenna and Val first started dating in 2015 and got engaged in 2018.
