This is the best-case scenario for “have your cake and eat it too.” Beloved bridal designer Vera Wang has teamed up with iconic French pastry brand Ladurée for what will likely emerge as one of the most exciting collaborations in the new year.
On Thursday, January 11, both Wang and Ladurée unveiled their 2018 dessert collaboration entitled Vera Wang pour Ladurée. The mouth-watering selection includes new flavors like a coconut crème chantilly macaron, as well as a mango-and-coconut wedding cake. The all-white confections are inspired by Wang’s iconic bridal designs.
“Collaborating with the historic French pâtissier Ladurée to create wedding cakes and desserts for a couple’s special day has been both fun and creative,” Wang tells The Knot in an exclusive statement, “as most of the same design concerns of creating a gown… also hold true for a wedding cake.”
She adds, “I hope couples will also be able to appreciate the delicate flavor of crème chantilly mixed with my favorite, coconut, for the macarons and the added touch of mango in the cake! These desserts are both unique in their simplicity, yet highly personal in their flavor.” In conclusion, Wang describes the collaboration as “light but sophisticated…”
The designer worked closely with Ladurée heiress and president, Elisabeth Holder, for the partnership. “Her talents for not just business, but the artisanal side of such a creative enterprise are so impressive. I was thrilled to be able to collaborate with her on designing a bespoke wedding cake inspired by one of my gowns,” Wang said in a press release. “For me, Ladurée globalized and glorified a truly French art form throughout the world as the ultimate pâtissier.”
Holder reciprocated the praise in the same release, saying: “Vera Wang is iconic in both bridal and fashion, just as Ladurée is the authority in desserts. We met and it was love at first sight. I love that Vera is modern yet classic at the same time, she loves Paris and has that ‘je ne sais quoi’ about her. This partnership is a wonderful opportunity for us to highlight the Ladurée Wedding Collection. It is the first time that a designer has created a cake for us. I’m very proud and honored to work with Vera and can’t wait to bring this collection to wedding celebrations.”
Cakes and macarons from the collection will be available at a reasonable price point as well, with individual cakes retailing for $20 and full-sized cakes retailing for $20 per guest (all cakes will be available via special order throughout the calendar year). Macarons from the limited collection will be available while supplies last, and will be sold in four sizes: a box of six for $24, a small cube of 45 for $166, a medium cube of 80 for $275 and a large cube of 125 for $425.
The unique collection of desserts will be featured in the windows of Ladurée Madison Avenue and Soho locations in New York City from Jan. 10 through Jan. 26.
