A wedding to remember! When John De Rienzo of De Rienzo Films filmed Gabriel and Annabella Deku‘s wedding last month, he had no idea that his video would go viral. Now, in an exclusive new interview with The Knot, De Rienzo shares the details behind the emotional moment and what caused the groom to break down as his bride walked down the aisle.
In the clip, London groom Gabriel, 25, begins tearing up as soon as his bride, Annabella, enters the church, St Martin-in-the-Fields, in London’s Trafalgar Square. His sentiments only intensify as she makes her way down the aisle — and the entire bridal party gets equally choked up as they witness the raw sentiments. Eventually, everyone in the church is overcome with emotion.
“As a filmmaker, we constantly have to be looking out for those special moments to capture,” De Rienzo tells The Knot. “When I noticed Gabriel beginning to cry, I knew we had to get close-up shots of him to show the emotion fully.”
De Rienzo says it was his gut reaction to focus on the groom. “In this situation, there is little time to ponder, and you have to think off your feet. Otherwise, the moment is gone,” the filmmaker explains to The Knot. “Thankfully we had the right set-up with four cameras present, but Gabriel’s reaction was something we have never witnessed before. The moment was captivating.”
Apparently the groom was emotional even before his bride made her way down the aisle. “Prior to the ceremony, Gabriel became emotional while waiting for his bride as he talked to guests outside the church,” he shares with The Knot. “We also captured this moment. He needed time by himself and was comforted by his close friends. At this point we knew it may be an emotional bridal entrance and set up our cameras accordingly.”
Clearly, the filmmaker did something right. Not long after De Rienzo’s video was posted to Facebook and Vimeo, it was picked up by a Twitter user. Within no time, it had well over 30,000 retweets and 40,000 likes from all around the world. Then, the rest was history.
This is the most beautiful wedding entrance I’ve seen. God bless them both 💞https://t.co/zlXTc69w27

The guests got swept up in the moment too. “Once Annabella began to walk down the aisle, the guests sensed Gabriel’s reaction and they began to cheer loudly,” De Rienzo recalls to The Knot. “It was truly atmospheric and quite special.”
While the viral video clip only shows a small portion of Gabriel and Annabella’s wedding day, De Rienzo explains that there were touching moments throughout the entire event. “We knew instantly that Gabriel and Annabella’s wedding was going to be fun, emotional, and lively,” he says. “It was extremely funny! The best man was incredibly funny [and] full of life as were all the guests. The dancing and atmosphere [that] evening was incredible. There was not one dull moment,” he adds.
“Having said all this, the most special moment was the ceremony entrance,” the filmmaker tells The Knot, “as it summed up for us the true emotion and love that a couple can have for one another.”
People have asked De Rienzo if the groom’s crying was a “set up.” The filmmaker explains that Gabriel’s reaction to his bride was undoubtedly genuine. “This is true love that we believe will last a lifetime.”
